Day 2 - "Hey, Amarillo, what'd you want my baby for?

Tolar, TX to Amarillo, TX - 452 Miles
September 2, 2012

I sort of went around my hand to get to my thumb, but I wanted new road, you know how I love new road.  So I routed myself basically through the middle of no-damn-where Texas.  And it was nice.

Found a new courthouse...and have immediately lost it.  I can't determine where this one is located.  And I'm tired and sleepy, and may not.

Shackelford County Courthouse
Albany, TX
The trees have grown considerably since its completion in 1883.

Pretty good proof I'm heading into west Texas.  Of course, I could be heading toward Mexico as well, I suppose.
But I'm not.  This is off Hwy 62 near Floydada.

And they are blooming.  I'm sure someone makes a decent recipe of these...or something really strong to drink.

Managed to wend my way to Plainview (without a high straight) and took the famous "Amarillo Highway" north (I-27).   Found a room for the night in Amarillo and dinner at the 'Big Texas Steakhouse,' famous for its 72 oz. t-bone steak.  It's free if you can eat it, complete with all "fixins" within an hour.  I didn't even attempt it.  But the small strip steak was pretty good.

Amarillo Highway - Terry Allen
Well I'm a high straight in Plainview
Side bet in Idalou, An a fresh deck in New Deal
Yeah Some call me high hand, An some call me low hand
But I'm holdin what I am…The Wheel

I'm panhandlin, Man handlin,
Post holin, High rollin
Dust Bowlin…Daddy
An I ain't got no blood veins
I just got them four lanes
Of hard…Amarillo Highway
