Day 1 - But first, a little birthday celebration

Home to Tolar, Tx - 251 Miles
September 1, 2012

My initial plans were to head out via Abilene, but, a few days before my scheduled departure I received an invite to my friend Bill B's birthday bash up in Tolar.  Bill and I have known each other since 1975 and worked at two companies together.  He and his family are just wonderful people and I never miss an opportunity to get together with them.  Besides, there will always be some good pickin' and grinning.  Can't say no to that.

Four generations.  Bill, Aunt Betty, Kellie, and little Kaia, Kellie's five-month old sweetheart.
In the background, David, husband of Bill's other daughter, Sara, and wonderful grill master, the duties he is performing at the moment.

Anyone wish to bet Kaia isn't going to grow up amid a lot of music?  Mother plays bass.

Granddad and great-aunt Betty play mandolin.

Bill's sister Charlotte.  Guitar, bass, and great vocals.

Charlotte and her friend Don.  Man, they can both play and sing!!!  Always a treat playing with them.

The fat guy, playing backwards, and often, wrongly.

Hail, hail, the gang's all here...and they're playing.

Not reflected in these pictures...and a terrible oversight by yours truly, are Bill's wonderful wife, Martha, grandchildren Claire and Wil.

We had a ball, as usual.
